Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus (July 2, 2021) - Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a devotional practices that dates back to the 17th century when Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque VHM, and spoke to her of His Sacred Heart. Several promises were made to those who practice the First Fridays Devotions, one of which includes final perseverance. Devotion to the Sacred Heart, as given to St. Margaret Mary (The Apostle of the Devotion to the Sacred Heart), began to grow in popularity soon after she died, but was officially recognized 75 years later. An important part of the First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart is the Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. As part of our Salesian tradition, each Oblate consecrates himself, and our community, to the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the First Friday of the Month. As part of our Salesian Family, we invite you to join as a Parish in consecrating yourself, your family, and our Parish to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and come for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Church. Click HERE for the prayer of consecration.

A View form the Border: OMC parishioner, Pat Harrington, along with Several Sisters of St Joseph and other SJ Associates, is spending two weeks at the border ministering to migrant families.
Good Morning all!
It’s day 3 and each day brings me deeper into the lives of these poor families. Their stories are heart-wrenching. We listen to them, we hold them in our arms, and our tears mix with theirs. So many young families. Beautiful babies! Already they have experienced much more than can be imagined.
There are approximately 1000+/- migrants arriving at the center each day. It is sheer chaos with long lines for all services. A huge facility, resembling a convention center, it is dark and not a comforting environment. One huge room is carpeted with mats for sleeping - wall to wall -and no matter the time of day, amidst all the noise and ambient chaos, you find families, exhausted from their long journeys, huddled together in deep sleep. Overcrowded to the max and not enough time for personal connecting. Except for where we are.
Our group has been assigned to the clothing distribution area where a full set of clothing is available for each migrant. It’s a good place to work because we have one to one access to each individual we serve. And after our day ends, we run out to shop for those articles of clothing that were depleted during our shift. We were all so very fortunate to be supported in this ministry by so many. With each dollar we spend, I give thanks !!
With much gratitude,
Pat

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued a "question and answer" document in response to the most frequent concerns that have been raised concerning the vote to draft a teaching on the Eucharist. "Since the conclusion of the Assembly of the U.S. bishops last week, there has been much attention on the vote taken to draft a document on the Eucharist. The question of whether or not to deny any individual or groups Holy Communion was not on the ballot. The vote by the bishops last week tasked the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Doctrine to begin the drafting of a teaching document on the Eucharist...." Click HERE to continue.
Men’s Summer Clothing Needed for Homeless: OMC parishioner, Regina Beck, is collecting all sizes of new and gently used men’s summer clothing (t-shirts, short sleeve shirts, shorts, boxer briefs, etc.) for homeless men. Parish Building Projects – As a parish community, we build upon the legacy of our ancestors in the faith. The spiritual life and the church buildings we have inherited were built by men and women during a time of the anti-Catholic movement in Philadelphia. Due to their sacrifices, we have continued to be a vital welcoming Catholic faith community in Chestnut Hill for over 165 years. In response to our obligation to maintain our heritage, the Parish Finance Council (PFC) has approved the following capital projects totaling $137,808.00, which were submitted by our Parish Building Committee:
In addition, the Parish Building Committee is completing the research to replace one of the two church boilers. The estimate cost is $25,000.00. Once the Building Committee has completed its process, their recommendation will be forwarded to the OMC Finance Council for approval.
These projects are funded through the Parish Building Fund, which was established in 2007 for the sole purpose of funding capital improvements to the buildings and property. Presently the Parish Building Fund is in excess of $305,000.00. Since its inception, the Building Fund has invested almost $3.2 million dollars in the restoration of our parish buildings and grounds. Funding sources for the Parish Building Fund are the Annual Building Fund Appeal, capital gifts, bequests, a percentage of our yearly excess in operating revenues, and individual donations.
- Repairs to the Parish Office Building foundation - $18,750.00
- Rectory window replacement Phase 1 (Front & Driveway facades) - $101,653.00
- Exterior painting (Rectory - Office - Church) - $17,405.00 - Completed

OMC Climate Ministry: It’s tempting to start the new year with lists and lists of what we want to accomplish. However, Pope Francis has only one goal for us this year: create a culture of care. Such a culture would overcome “indifference, waste and confrontation,” and help all of us deepen our ecological conversion. Below you’ll find ways to get started on that goal this month by coming together with Catholics around the globe and helping create a world full of “fraternity and solidarity, of mutual support and acceptance.”

Race, Justice and Equity Survey (Survey Closes Monday, June 28) The Ignatian Solidarity Network is conducting a survey to help understand the contexts of race, equity, and justice within Catholic institutions. The data gathered will aid in the development of a Racial Justice Action Plan partially aimed at supporting and networking parishes in racial justice work. Complete the survey in English or Español.
The data gathered will aid in the development of a broad-based Racial Justice Action Plan. This plan will consider the contexts and perceptions articulated in survey results, as well as existing resources, stated needs, and emerging trends in order to discern the most effective and efficient means by which ISN can provide assistance. This survey is anonymous and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Your truthful and thoughtful responses will play a significant role in shaping our work on racial justice for the coming years.

Nutritional Development Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (NDS) is launching its annual “Manna Sunday” Food Drive to help provide nourishment to our neighbors in need. The food drive, named after the food which God provided for the Israelites in the desert, prepares NDS for the “desert” of the summer months when donations at its food pantries historically drop to low levels. This effort is especially critical as individuals and households continue to face ongoing financial challenges, elevated levels of food insecurity, and other hardships stemming from the ongoing pandemic. Those interested in supporting NDS can purchase healthy, non-perishable food items online through You Give Goods at https://yougivegoods.com/ndsmanna. All goods donated online now through Wednesday, June 16th will be shipped directly to NDS’ Community Food Program and be distributed to its network of over 50 food cupboards and outreach programs throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.
Take Back The Month: Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS), is launching its, “Take Back the Month!” donation drive. This initiative aims to support women in need who experience obstacles to obtaining menstrual care and feminine hygiene products. Women with lack of proper access to feminine hygiene products due to financial hardship or homelessness suffer ill effects to their health and dignity each month. In addition, many women experiencing financial challenges stemming from the ongoing pandemic must choose to put other immediate needs and the needs of their family first such as purchasing food, diapers, and other basic essentials causing inadequate access to menstrual hygiene products for themselves. Those interested in helping can donate items online through YouGiveGoods at https://yougivegoods.com/takebackthemonth.
All goods donated will help stock the shelves of CSS’ “Ladies Locker” pantries. CSS’ housing and social services programs benefitting from the collection include: Mercy Hospice and Mc Auley House; Women of Hope; Visitation Homes; Mercy Café; Chester City Coffee Club; as well as six Family Service Center’s across the five-county Philadelphia area. Donated items will also be distributed to CSS staff working directly with teenage populations. Click HERE for information. Click HERE for article in Catholic Philly.com
