OMC Parish Religious Education Program
The Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) at Our Mother of Consolation Parish, is a family centered program for children in grades 1 to 7 (and older if needed) who do not attend Catholic School. Parents are the primary educators of their children when it comes to raising them in the Catholic Faith. The Parish for its part, assists Parents with this responsibility.
Our prayer is for our children to deepen their baptismal commitment as they grow in "age, grace, and wisdom." To this end, we seek to form disciples of Jesus who have an understanding of their Catholic faith and a relationship with God through prayer, participation in the Sacraments, and service to others. This journey is ongoing, therefore, Our Mother of Consolation PREP is set up so that each year builds upon the previous year in order to assist our children as they deepen their understanding of our Catholic faith.
Children are expected to complete Levels 1 and 2 prior to receiving Reconciliation and First Eucharist, and Levels 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 prior to the reception to the Sacrament of Confirmation. We place great importance on participation in Sunday Mass, as a way for our children to grow in their relationship with God and with their Parish community. Children in Years 1 and 2 are encouraged to participate in Sunday Story during the 9 AM Mass.
The PREP program for all Levels is held on the first and third Sundays of each month from 10 AM to 11:30 AM. In the two weeks or three weeks in between the onsite Sundays, Parents teach an assigned lesson to their children in their home. Lessons taught by the Parents with children in Years 1 to 5 require the child to submit an online assessment following the lesson. Home based lessons for student sin Years 6 and 7 are checked during the onsite classes.
We welcome all children to our PREP program. If a child has a special need, we are committed to working with the Parents to support the child's Faith Formation and their reception of the Sacraments. For additional information, please contact the Parish office at 215-247-0430.
