OMC Parish Religious Education Program
The Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) at Our Mother of Consolation Parish, is a family centered program for children in grades 1 to 6 (and older if needed) who do not attend Catholic School. Parents are the primary educators of their children when it comes to raising them in the Catholic Faith. The Parish for its part, assists Parents with this responsibility.
Our prayer is for our children to deepen their baptismal commitment as they grow in "age, grace and wisdom." To this end, we seek to form Disciples of Jesus who have an understanding of their Catholic faith and a relationship with God through prayer, participation in the Sacraments, and service to others. This journey is ongoing, therefore, Our Mother of Consolation PREP is set up so that each year builds upon the previous year in order to assist our children as they deepen their understanding of our Catholic faith.
Children are expected to complete Levels 1 and 2 prior to receiving Reconciliation and First Eucharist, and Levels 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 prior to the reception to the Sacrament of Confirmation. We place great importance on participation in Sunday Mass, as a way for our children to grow in their relationship with God and with their Parish community.
The PREP program for all Levels is held on the first and third Sundays of each month from 10 AM to 11:30 AM, preceded by participation in the 9 AM Mass. On alternating Sundays, Parents teach the assigned lesson to their children in their home. The lessons are posted under the Faith Formation tab on the this website. Lessons taught by the Parents are reviewed by the PREP Catechists during the next on-site class. Children in Levels 1 and 2 are encouraged to participate in either Sunday Story during the 9 AM Mass.
We welcome all children to our PREP program. If a child has a special need, we are committed to working with the Parents to support the child's Faith Formation and their reception of the Sacraments.
