Every October, we consider more deeply why every human life is valuable and reflect on how to build a culture that protects life from conception to natural death.
St Joseph, Defender of Life
“Our defense of the innocent unborn, for example, needs to be clear, firm and passionate, for at stake is the dignity of a human life, which is always sacred and demands love for each person, regardless of his or her stage of development. Equally sacred, however, are the lives of the poor, those already born, the destitute, the abandoned and the underprivileged, the vulnerable infirm and elderly exposed to covert euthanasia, the victims of human trafficking, new forms of slavery, and every form of rejection”
Pope Francis - Gaudete et Exsultate, #101
OMC Baby Bottle Campaign in support of Mothers' Home: - During the month of October OMC raises funds for Mothers' Home through a baby bottle campaign. For 25 years, Mothers’ Home has been a beacon of hope for homeless pregnant women, providing housing and a safe place for homeless women to prepare for their birth of their babies. Mothers' Home also provides training in pre-natal and post-natal care; courses in relationship, nutrition, budgeting, and computers; assists in finding housing and counsels new moms to meet their individual needs and goals. Most new moms return for about a three months after giving birth to enable bonding with their child and find permanent housing. Mothers’ Home helps women to help themselves and helps them to care for their babies. Parishioners are invited to take a baby bottle, fill it with loose change, and return it to Church. Over the past five years, OMC parishioners have contributed over $20k to the baby bottle campaign. Click HERE to donate through OMC Online Giving.
OMC Diaper Drive - During the month of January, the OMC Peace & Justice Committee hosts a Diaper Drive in order to support families who choose life despite difficult economic circumstances. Diapers are expensive-- more than $100 per month for most children. This is a large expense even for families who are prepared for children. For an unplanned pregnancy, diapers greatly increase the cost of “choosing life.” Over the years we have donated thousands of diapers, baby wipes, and other baby products to pregnancy and social service canters through the Philadelphia area.
Walking With Moms in Need - Pregnant and parenting moms in need are in our parishes and our neighborhoods. As Pope Francis reminds us, our parishes need to be “islands of mercy in the midst of a sea of indifference.” Everyone in the parish community should be aware of where to refer a pregnant woman in need.
This newly forming grassroots initiative coming to OMC is aimed at helping pregnant women and parenting moms in need. It provides resources and accompaniment for local assistance, social services, and resources to women who are looking for somewhere to turn for help. Resources are found on the parish website and additional support is provided by “Parish Moms” who offer their support when needed. To support this initiative, the Committee is developing educational, pastoral, and action-oriented resources for our parish use. Click HERE for Information

Biking For Babies - Biking for Babies is a pro-life organization renewing the culture of life in America by calling everyone to embrace and cherish the dignity of every human life. Our mission is to 1) form young adult, pro-life missionaries, 2) increase awareness for pregnancy resource centers around the country, and 3) raise financial and spiritual support for the life-saving work of those centers. Our missionaries engage in a period of formation including scriptural reflection, education, and opportunities for evangelization. The missionaries then bike 2,700 miles across sections of the country as part of our mission to raise awareness and funds. Interested in learning more or getting involved?
