In October of 2021, the Pro-Life Union of Greater Philadelphia, in partnership with Catholic Social Services, opened the first-ever Community-Based Culture of Life Initiative of its kind in Frankford (just north of Kensington), Philadelphia: The Cenacle. The goal is to transform Frankford into a Culture of Life by building a sustainable, self-sufficient, and permanent pro-life presence there. Through education, community engagement, compassionate service and programming, we will partner with Catholic Social Services and the Capuchin Friars at the Padre Pio Prayer Center to build an effective program that minimizes abortion-risk in the area. The Cenacle family life center  has been growing so fast and is now serving over 150 mom's and their children!

We are in need of volunteers to fill weekday shifts between Monday through Friday. Right now we have a specific volunteer need filled for the following shifts: Monday’s 9am-11:30am or 1pm -4pm , Tuesday’s 1pm-4pm, Thursday’s 10am-1pm. For more information please email [email protected].

Take Back the Month - Feminine Hygiene Donation Drive! - Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (CSS), for the second year in a row, is collecting feminine hygiene products to support women and girls who face obstacles to obtaining them.   The initiative, called “Take Back the Month,” aims to address wide-spread need and ensure that women and girls throughout the Philadelphia area who are unable to access or afford feminine hygiene products due to poverty, homelessness, and other barriers have consistent access at no cost. Those interested in supporting CSS and those in need can donate items online through YouGiveGoods at https://yougivegoods.com/takebackthemonth.  All goods donated will benefit CSS’ housing and homeless programs including Mercy Hospice, McAuley House, Women of Hope, Visitation Homes, Mercy Café, and the Chester City Coffee Club.   Donated items will also benefit “Ladies Locker” pantries located at CSS Family Service Centers across the five-county region, as well as the CSS School Social Work Program that works with students, families, and staff within Archdiocesan High Schools.  In addition, items will be distributed to those in need during staff outreach initiatives in local communities.

OMC Food Pantry:
We are still collecting food for our sisters and brothers in need. You may leave your bags of non-perishable food items on the rectory porch whenever convenient.  If you need food, or know of someone in need of food, please call the parish office 215-247-0430, press 7 when the auto-attendant service answers, and leave a message in the St. Vincent de Paul voice mail box. Thanks again, for helping us to meet the needs of our neighbors during this time of uncertainty and to our St Vincent de Paul Society for coordinating our efforts.

Faith & Justice Opportunities:

Critical Race Theory (CRT) -  We have all witnessed the controversy around Critical Race Theory (CRT).  Parents are outraged, school boards are under attack, State legislatures have passed laws "banning it" from school curriculum, and the media (conservative & liberal) have hyped it.   It is important to carefully navigate CRT and the many issues around race, racism, history, culture, equity, and education that have been conflated into it by those who have repackaged it for their own, perhaps less than charitable, purposes.    This video from Educationweek.com is concise in  addressing CRT from an educators viewpoint.  The video may be useful in beginning the process of educating ourselves about CRT, helping us to move beyond the hype in order to develop a better understanding of it,  and allow us to have productive discussions.

21-Day Racial Equity Challenge:  For 21 days, we challenge you to enter into the complex work of understanding the realities of racial injustice  and  anti-Blackness in the U.S. The Ignatian Racial Equity Challenge is designed for all participants, regardless of race, ethnicity, prior anti-racism work, age or background and will include opportunities to learn, pray, and act on different themes of racial equity.  Click HERE for more information

Are You Planning a Trip?  Our Blessed Mother was always a traveler. Some of her travels were planned and safe, and others more dangerous. Mary understands the challenges and struggles we face. Like centuries of Christians before us, we continue to invoke her protection on our own journey through life.   When you join Mary’s Travelers, you promote devotion to the Blessed Mother as a way to encourage careful and prayerful journeys. In the tradition of St. Francis de Sales, members strive to make the ordinary, routine activity of travel - physical or spiritual - an act of love for God.  You can become part of a spiritual and online community where you can pray for other travelers, your own intentions, and receive many other benefits!
A spiritual community dedicated to Mary and her special intercession!  Mary’s Travelers invoke the protection of Christ's Mother on all our journeys. We are a community united in devotion to Mary and call on her to keep us, our loved ones, and all travelers under her divine protection.

DeSales Weekly -  Every Thursday, DeSales Weekly provides our
subscribers with some fresh material to aid them in efforts to
live Jesus, which is the motto of our patron, St. Francis de Sales.  He sought to integrate the sacred and the secular to make the ordinary events of our lives extraordinary by bringing virtue, grace, and Jesus to all we do.  Frequently, we may not be able to see the window through which the Spirit may enter a given moment or activity of our day.  With reflections on a panoply of topics and experiences by the Oblates, as well as resources to help prepare for Sunday Mass, and other updates from the Oblate world, this weekly email offers a regular, concise resource to life the spirit and help it soar into the weekend. The Oblates of St. Francis de Sales celebrate  a double Salesian Jubilee Year (January 23, 2022 to January 24, 2023)  marking the 400th anniversary of the death of St. Francis de Sales (1622) and the 450th anniversary of the birth of our secondary founder, St. Jane de Chantal (1572).  Their friendship gave us what we fondly call "Salesian Spirituality." This jubilee allows for a renewal of The Salesian life.  Oblate Superior General, Fr. Barry Strong, OSFS, highlights three pillars of this jubilee year: to increase knowledge and love of the two saints; to encourage imploring their intercession; and to imitate their virtues and devotion.  Click HERE for more information.
