OMC Forum on Sexual Abuse - Listen Sessions
VJ
Dear Friends,
In December 2018, the OMC Sexual Abuse Forum hosted a focus group moderated by our parishioner, John Tarquinio. The focus group was self-selected and represented a broad cross section of the parish community. Click on the button below for the findings from this focus group.
One of the recommendations of this focus group was: "To create a forum in which parishioners can share their outrage and hurt and to travel together to personal and Church renewal. Everyone agreed that they often, or most times, feel like they are going through this crisis alone and they have no one to talk with about it. They want to be with other like-minded people to express their feelings and their ideas for change."
So that we may continue to move forward in addressing this issue , the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) invites you to a listening session in the parish hall on Sunday, June 2 at 6PM or Tuesday, June 4 at 7 PM . These listening sessions will be facilitated by a member of the PPC. As stated above, this forum is an opportunity for parishioners to come together and to share during this difficult time in our Church, as we search for answers. It is one more step in a continuing process of struggling with the betrayal by our Church hierarchy. Although not required we ask that you sign up (see below). The PPC will also be reestablishing our Sexual Abuse Forum, in order to implement the additional recommendations from the focus group.
Our journey will be long and our suffering will continue for years to come, as it has for those who have been sexually abused. Healing and change may not even occur in our lifetime, but it is through the suffering of the cross that we will one-day experience the resurrection. Any meaningful change is going to take perseverance, prayer, and patience. Thank you for your perseverance, prayer and patience; thank you for holding on to your belief in the Eucharistic presence of Christ, the core of our faith; and thank you for holding all the victims of clergy sexual abuse close in prayer.
In de Sales,
Fr. Bob
