Youth Ministry Monthly Update- March 29, 2021
It has been a wonderful Lent for teen Ministry! Teens joined us for the weekly Bible Study, shopped and cooked some delicious meals for a local women shelter and joined us for Adoration and a Lenten meal. It was certainly a busy season for us. Looking ahead to Easter, April, and May, we will be slowing down a little before starting our summer activities. We are looking forward to celebrating confirmation with the 7th graders and welcoming them to our community. Please read through the update carefully and let me know if you have any suggestions or would like to volunteer. In the April update I will put out a sign up genius for adults to sign up to chaperone our summer activities. I also ask all teens to please fill out the following survey which will provide input for our summers plans. I want to plan events that teens are interested in that will also help them grow closer to Christ so please let me know what you are interested in. God bless!
Lenten Meal Service Project- Each Monday during lent, teens met at a nearby grocery store to shop for a meal. They then cooked and packaged the meal using the parish office kitchen and the meal was delivered the following day. The teens learned some home economic skills and hopefully some new recipes while doing a corporal works of mercy.
Adoration, Evening Prayer, and Lenten Meal-
We gathered earlier in March for adoration and evening prayer. Afterwards we hung out in the parish hall as we enjoyed a Meatless meal from Catholic Relief Services. We had cheese empanadas, fried plantains, and beans and rice.
Lenten Bible Study: Throughout Lent, Teens gathered on Mondays to read and discuss the Sunday readings. This was offered on zoom and in person in the the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Our next Bible study will be over the summer. Complete the survey at the top to vote on the topic.
Family Easter Activities- The Teen Ministry Senior Leadership team has planned a community activity for the kids of OMC. They will be coordinating an Easter egg hunt, Easter crafts, mask tie dying, and other activities after the 9:00am and 11:00am Masses on Sunday April 11th. The activities are for kids in 5th grade and below. Teens can sign up to volunteer to help here.
Teen Ministry Leadership Team Interest Meeting- Current sophomores and Juniors are invited to join the Teen Ministry Leadership Team for the 2021-2022 School year. There is an interest meeting via zoom on Wednesday April 14th 8:00-8:30. Come and learn what the leadership team is all about. We will begin creating the calendar for next year in May. The leadership team works behind the scenes to plan events for the teens of our parish. It meets once a month during the school year.
Service Opportunity- Earth day event at Chestnut Hill Library April 24th The Library is looking for teens to volunteer to help with a garden event for Earth Day. Let me know if you are interested and I will send out more details when I receive them.
