Reflection for Sunday April 30th, 2023
Sunday Gospel: Jn 10:1-10
This week's Gospel talks about how Jesus is the gate and the Good Shepherd. Jesus came to save all sinners so that they may live an abundant life. We must listen to this voice for guidance. The gate represents him healing and leading us to abundant life. When we pass through the gate we are healed. The sheep in the passage only listen to the shepherds voice and they do not recognize the voice of strangers. How will you let Jesus' VOice guide you to righteousness? This week's reflection is by Abe in 8th grade. |
Reflection for Sunday April 2nd, 2023Sunday Gospel: Mt 26:14—27:66
The Gospel this Sunday has so many different parts to it as we enter into Holy Week. We hear about the last supper and the events leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew. I would like to focus on the last supper and the institution of the Eucharist. Jesus celebrates the passover with his disciples and offers himself as the ultimate sacrifice to God, this sacrifice is carried out with the crucifixion. Jesus is unique as a priest in that the sacrifice he offers to God is himself. We have the opportunity to enter into this sacrifice at every mass and to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. The mass is an experience outside of time when the past, present and future come together in a single moment. As we enter into Holy week let us try to see how everything about this week leads us back to the mass. Think about your Holy Week plan. How will you enter into the prayers and masses of the church throughout this week in order to make it special and to better prepare for the Easter Triduum. |
Reflection for Easter Sunday April 9th, 2023 by JaxsonMatthew 26:14-27:66 narrates the events leading up to and including the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The passage highlights the betrayal of Judas, the Last Supper, Jesus' arrest, trial, and sentencing by the religious leaders and Pontius Pilate, and his crucifixion. The passage emphasizes the fulfillment of prophecy and the sacrifice of Jesus for the salvation of humanity. It also underscores the human weakness and betrayal of the disciples, and the stark contrast between the righteousness of Jesus and the corruption and injustice of the religious and political authorities. Reading this passage is a powerful reminder of the depth of God's love and the magnitude of the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross. Now, think about how you can respond to the sacrifice of Jesus and the love of God this Easter Season.

Reflection for Sunday April 16th, 2023Sunday Gospel: Jn 20:19-31
Happy Divine Mercy Sunday! This Sunday we reflect on the overwhelming love and mercy of God. The Gospel for this week focuses on Jesus giving his disciples the ability to forgive sins. We look to this passage as the basis to the sacrament of reconciliation. During this post resurrection appearance Jesus does two other things. He offers the disciples peace and and he also sends them out just as he was sent into the world. What is he sending them out to do? Just after he sends them out, Jesus gives them the ability to forgive sins. He is essentially sending them, and in turn us, out to share the love and mercy of God. Our world needs mercy. This Sunday, reflect on the love and mercy of God and make a plan to go to confession in the next two weeks. |
Reflection for Sunday April 23rd, 2023 by Gabby Sunday Gospel: Lk 24:13-35
In this week’s Gospel we hear about the resurrected Jesus and his appearance to two disciples. Jesus is our foundation of hope, and he brings the face of God to share the everlasting joy. We as the people of Jesus should spread out and teach about the good deeds of his doings. This Gospel shows the Disciples of Jesus at the first Easter. This chapter is important because it talks about the initial difficulty the Disciples have when they see Jesus and then their eventual apprehension and respons. As disciples of Jesus we want to follow his path to Heaven. This passage teaches us about the importance of what we need to see before us. Jesus was right in front of the two disciples but he was unrecognized. What is preventing you from encountering Jesus this Easter season? This week's reflection is by Gabby, OMC class of 2023. |
